Just to clear up the confusion ...Ardex bought BAL 3 years ago. Bal own the brandname Dunlop. Staff from Bal left and formed Norcros Adhesives which is now a seperate adhesive company. Howtex was bought by Webber and Broutin and then swallowed up by St Gobain group which includes CTD.
Mapei are the largest in the world and still a privately owned family company

Cliff Cliff Cliff..... you should know your competitors at lot better then this!!!..... The Ardex Group acquired BAL in 2001. Ardex UK and BAL operate as independent companies in the UK under the common Ardex Group banner. (incidentally the Ardex group is also a family owned group!)

I think the poll shows that whether Mapei are the world's largest (largest what by the way) makes little difference as the UK market for tiling is so different to anywhere else in the world. Maybe that is why the company that has been at the forefront of UK tile adhesives development for 45 years leads the poll despite the number of ex staff working for Norcros, although strangely not as many ex BAL staff as work at Mapei!

I'm halfway through a bathroom, the customer provided all the mats........ unibond addy and B and Q 10 by 8 plain white tiles.
The addy holds the tiles like grease, and I've had to grade the tiles like slate cos they're all different sizes.
I've also got to tile over tiles, so I'm insisting on bal white star for that.
Its early days for me to pick a preferred addy but I've found one I really don't like.

Bal Grip as a tub adhesive is superb. When it comes to tiling behind a new installation toilet, and a need for something to stick fast with no slip, in readiness for grout and fix, not found anything better.

I'm trying toppfix white flexi tomorrow for the first the time hope it's as good as some of you lads say but will continue using bal, nicobond and biscem grouts

In Germany the reliable tile workers take adhesives not below C2 standard acc. to EN 12004. In general they take a flexible adhesive acc. to EN 12002 class S1 over heated grounds and always so, if the tile is pocelaine stoneware. They take a white C2S1 adhesive with glass tiles and a white fine trass containing adhesive for marble and white granite. The adhesive make is different as this is a subject to the workers "feeling for the adhesive".
