Hi,
Absolute newby here in terms of tiling.
Having been doing lots of research and I think I`m making progress however the more I research, the more conflicting opinions I come across.

Having a new shower installed over a bath, will be quite a powerful shower.
I have removed the existing tiles, the walls around the bath/ shower is skimmed plasterboard.
Tiles have come of easily and plaster is in condition except for a couple of holes that need filling.
Old tile adhesive has also come off quite easily so walls are in good condition.
Bath will remain in situ.

After lots of research I am going to tank the walls around the bath/shower (using Aquaseal kit of primer, tape and paint on membrane)

Question is.....because the walls are tanked do i need specialist tile adhesive and grout?
Was planning to buy good quality ready mix "waterproof" adhesive and "waterproof" grout.

Have read there could be difficulties with regular adhesive bonding to wall that has been tanked.

Once tiles and grouted I plan to seal the grout.

Any feedback or suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Dave

Hi , you need a bagged cement based C2 minimum adhesive and definitely not a ready mixed tubbed adhesive.
what tiles are you using ?

Hi Dave,
Thanks for replying, much appreciated.
Plan to use ceramic tiles, will probably source from somewhere like B&Q, Topps Tiles, etc.

Have you had much experience of using seals around the bath like Sealux?

Cheers

Not used them mate.
Quick update...

Have now removed all the old tiles.
Came off quite easily and I now realise the original tiles were stuck directly to the original standard plasterboard.

Most of the adhesive came away with the tiles, some layered stripy bits sitting proud are left where adhesive was applied with a "comb", easy to scrape off leaving a flat thin layer of old adhesive.

There remains a thin layer of adhesive which initially looked like plaster skim.

Mostly this seems sounds and in tact and in other places its either completely come off with the tile, revealing the grey plasterboard, or is cracked and easy to scrape off.

Is it best to remove as much of this old adhesive as is possible prior to priming and tanking?
Might prove difficult where it appears to be sound, mostly this is around the bath.

Only tanking around the shower/bath but assume best to remove as much old adhesive as is possible prior to any new being applied?
