I am looking to tile some walls. The walls are in very good condition and fairly flat. What notch size trowel is best to use. Is 5mm ok???

It depends on the tiles you are using to be honest. If they're not mosaics you won't have a problem using a 5mm notched trowel. If they are mosaics then I would suggest using a 3mm 'V' notched trowel so as to avoid problems with too much adhesive, which can be a nightmare with smaller mosaics.

i average 8mm on walls,
6 on kitchen walls,
8 on good bathroom walls,
10-13 on floors!
