Tiling over quarry tiles - Tile Advice

Hi, apologies if this topic has been discussed on here but I'm in need of some advice about my current kitchen project.

We currently have a quarry tile floor in our kitchen, all the tiles are secure, relatively flat and there's never been any damp issues. Unfortunately neither me or the mrs like the look of them and they won't go with our new kitchen. All the builders/tilers who have looked at it have said just tile over them but I'm concerned that it'll stop the tiles from breathing and cause damp issues. If someone could shed some light on what needs to be done as I'm pretty confused about what to do at the moment. If replies can contain as little jargon as possible it'd be appreciated as I have virtually no knowledge of tiling.

Do you live in an old house without a DPM..

Yeah it's an old 1900 hours but the extension is newer than that. I imagine it's laid on ash due to how cold the floor is

If there's no DPM then you will get issues tiling over the quarry tiles as they breath with the floor.
Try taping some polythene on the floor for a couple of days and see how much moisture is produced ..
