Hello,

I've recently started renovating our kitchen/dinner. We've had a new concrete slab poured and it appears that the builders have put a tamped finish on it.

They used a rack to spread it out and get it level 'by eye'...

Due to this, I cant determine how level the floor is and how much compound I will need. So I wanted to ask if this would still be suitable to use a self-leveling compound and just make sure I buy a few extra bags.

On the floor there are a few ridges left by the rake so am concerned this will affect the compound or is it just as simple as pour enough to cover everything?

I know i should of had a screed put on top but we've now had the new kitchen fitted so this is no longer an option and we do not have 30mm of height for the screed.

Hello. Is this an extension? What sort of square meter are you wanting to level ? It is not as easy as I think your assuming it to be, what’s the finished floor covering as that will determine how good it needs to be..

Hi, no it is not, we've knocked through to create an open plan kitchen diner. I believe there will be about 19m2 of open flooring that we need to level.

I am planning on tiling the floor once we've got it flat.

Ok, you need to survey the floor to see how un level is it and to what extent the floor is out by. Chop off any real high ridges if there are any, then you can level it, once it’s all fully dry ofcourse and you have took moisture readings.

Used to do tiling for a conservatory company and all they did was self level on the concrete base and I would tile but no levels to bring up to existing.
