porcelain tile cement

Hi,
I have just laid out a new terrace about 100sq mt in size and now need to tile it. I chose the tiles (pocelain) and bought some cement, the coverage per bag is stated at 5sq mt per bag. I am not getting anything like this,(probably because it is onto cement) and it costs £11 ber bag. I know Porcelain tiles need “special” cement but can anyone recommend a cheap alternative?

Hi there, at that price per bag it is cheap sorry.
If you are getting nowhere near the stated 5m2 then your terrace must be in rough shape or bad levels on it?

Hello and welcome, who say's Porcelain needs special cement..?

Most tile adhesives now have an amount of Polymer incorporated within to help with the bond to porcelain tiles..


As for the coverage, what depth of trowel are you using and what size are the tiles.?

suprised at you saying that Dave about the adhesive, could you please tell us what make of adhesive you are meaning as i personaly would not take the risk of using ordinary adhesive with porcelain tiles, as for the £11 per bag 344349 is that for 20kg if so i want some,you should be getting 6 mts min i would say myself on a decent base

as aboce 11 pounds a bag is a good price

you must be out of level on the terrace,i would expect 4 metres out a bag of addy for a standard floor maybe 5

Most adhesives have polymers in them... some manufacturers call it porcelbond. but it will say on the bag if suitable for porcelain.. if you are unsure then use a flexible one..

Are you spreading the adhesive with a notched trowel or using it as a cement and spotting the tiles?

maybe with a 4mm square notched trowel, but not with a 20mm solid bed trowel and back skimming tiles.
