Unorthodox mate, but each to their own
actually, Andrew curry at schluter said to the last attendees that they accept this goes on and it doesn't necessarily reduce or limit the effectiveness of ditra. It does add another potential weakness but done as ray said then it's fine. They did used to say it was a no no though.

the reason I do it is to stop the ditra from been squashed an damaged kneeling all over the floor as you lay your sqashing the day lights out of it

Well that's why they recommend laying out walking boards, to protect the Ditra.
Backfilling and laying at the same time has to give a better bond strength surely, cos with the shape of the pockets you're effectively mechanically fixing the tile to the Ditra.
If u put another product in between, then you're relying on two products doing their job, not one!

Going a little off topic, has anyone heard of / tried using a product called "Fix a Floor"? I'm considering it as a maybe fix for this job; far simpler & cheaper than replacing the whole lot...

The screed company who solely does gypsum screeds on the isle of wight gives terrible advice to all their customers. They say it doesn't need sanding or decoupling even with ufh and stone! This means i always have a nightmare trying to convince the customers otherwise. In fact I'm naming and shaming Mayhew Easyscreed for their p*** poor advice!
It would be interesting to know how much experience this screed company has on fitting tiles and stone as their advise is awful.
