i must admit ,Phil, being a domestic tiler for the past 15 years and using a different tile on different walls every week, i thought i knew most things about tiling. The facts are i've learned as much in the last week, reading postings on this site, than i have in that whole time.

Could it be that the primer is not penetrating into the plaster so sticking large format tile to thin layer of primer that will have a weak bond and adhesive pulls off primer?

Has adhesive rexommendations changed now we're 5 years on?!
the first thing here is large format need an adhesive with out to much resistance not to much sand an adhesive you can add a little more water to not one set in stone that can blame you later next the trowel you use is just as inportant .some times the old know better than the new .
