Quicker and cleaner the removing paint and I personally avoid tiling onto plaster at all costs'

Thanks for your comments, but I have now overboarded and tiled as per previous replys. Gave a nice smooth surface and removed the hassle of scrapping off the old paint.

Yeah, was undecided whether to tile horizontal or vertical, but as the lines wouldn't match either way decide to go the length of the slope. I suppose it's personal preference, but I'm happy with the finish.
