My tiler split on me and left the shower walls half tiled. More importantly, they left a lumpy bumpy surface after installing backer board and RedGuard waterproofing.

See the pics for a brief visual backstory---

The job was to remove the bottom 3 rows of tiles around my tub that were cracked and replace them with black tiles. They finished the big back wall ....and never came back.

My house was built in 1930 so it was a challenge to do what they did so far.

I need to do the wall where the plumbing is and the opposite wall.
My problem now is.... how do I level out the wall so I can put the tile on?
Notice the hump.
That top row will get the original yellow tiles that came off.
The bottom 3 rows (@12") are for the new black tile.

Can I use some kind of mud or mud and membrane?? Something Kerdi-like?
