cost of polishing marble edges - TilersForums.com

Hi everyone,

I'm wondering if anyone can help with the cost of polishing the edges of marble tiles. I'm based in london and have been working it out the price per edge polished - I'm looking at £20 per edge, can anyone give me some input on this?

£20 per edge.? so how big is this edge ?

lol - sounds like im going to get laughed at...

they're 800 x 800 tiles

is there a method to calculating this sort of thing? It's something that I've only recently been asked to do..

If you know how long it will take, charge by the hour or half/full day. Don't forget to add a bit on for the wear and tear on tools etc.

you live and learn - that's what it's all about is it not. Thank god theres this place where I can run it by fellow tilers first.

Firstly do you have the tools to do the job ? Then Have you used them before? Pads dont last for ever and marble is harder on the pads than travertine or Limestone I have found. The same for the bullnosing bit.
Yeah its all a learning curve but you have to start somewhere.
On a few jobs I have done, I was able to bring tiles home and polish them up in the workshop or outside in my own time.
Take a polythene sheet with you too as its a messy job.

have you though about taking the marble to a stone masons or stone specialist and getting them to do it?
you could then put a bit of profit on for yourself? if nothing else, you will get it done by somebody who has the correct equipment and you'll get to know the going rate for future reference.

Work it on a hour/half/day rate.
With polished marble it takes longer than trav and not a 5 minute job.On say a 500mm length edge i would say around 20 minutes
Try out a piece at home see how long it takes then x's the time by amount to do

If you assume £15 per linear metre you won't be far off, IMO.
