Just wondered if you lot fancied helping make a tiling tools starter kit, perhaps a full set of tools that a only a tiler would carry. I know this has been done before on other forums but I could do with a copy for us on here too, and a fresh would would be great.

I think if we keep this to a tiling tools only list for the moment so any plumbing tools, no matter how big or small could stay out of it for the moment. We'll make a seperate one in the future maybe.

Tiling Tools Starter Kit
  • 100% coverage floor tiling trowel (thick bed solid bed, maybe a large square notch or similar)
  • Large format floor tiling trowel, approx 18", usually.
  • 100% coverage wall tiling trowel (thin-bed solid-bed, maybe a square notch for some)
  • 80% coverage wall tiling trowel (max 80%, most have slightly less but you have to keep to wall tiling regs for dry areas, maybe a 6mm round notch trowel, maybe a square notch)
Lots of room there for more tools :)

If you copy and paste the above in to your post below and add anything you wish, then we'll confirm it all at the end and i'll update the original post. This will help all new tilers and even maybe remind existing established ones.

You don't need the large trowel when you start.

That's a basic kit that every tiler needs. Probably run you around £500 and that would be with quality trowels like Marshalltown.

17. hole cutter kit for ceramic wall tiles

should be

17. Diamond core drill set 6mm 8mm 16mm 30mm 40mm for all tiles

Which funnily enough we happen to sell for £49.99 ... Seven drills in five sizes (you get two each of the 6mm and 8mm). We call it the BFKMX which is short for the Bathroom Fitters Kit Max because it covers 98% of all hole requirements in tiles.

You know after having a look at the Rubi kits I am severely tempted to get out my credit card - my gear is so old and battered (sorry - well used!). I'll have to wait till I sell my house though - got a second viewing from one couple in half an hour - I've had so many muppets over the last 5 months and I am bloody sick of cleaning the house (and mowing the soddin lawn) - never mind moving being stressful its the viewings that do me in.
Fingers Crossed !

i have an old cd in my glove box.... i draw round it when marking out a waste pipe to cut round. also, i don't have a fancy set of hole cutting drill bits:embaressed_smile:, i make do with a large triangular bit that does any size up to about 35mm, it does struggle a bit with porcelain but if you make a pilot hole first with an ordinary masonary or tile bit, it works great. cheap as chips... i replace it every 2 or 3 months.
