The previous owners had a bathroom boxin tiled onto ply. On day 1 of moving in I had them off as they were hanging on by the grout so unsafe. I'm indifferent toward the tiles but is there any way to fix new tile without going over with a tile backer board? As the tiles are all cut to see I expect they'll all be out on the measurements once the backboard goes on as it's quit thick. I don't think I have any play in the corners.

I did try CT1 adhesive on one tile and that didn't hold it on so looks to be unsuitable tiling surface.

Other option I thought was tile backer board, and plaster skim it as it's at the non-shower end. Bit of a bodge though.

How thick is the ply? Cant you remove the ply and replace with backerboard directly onto the existing framework and then fix the tiles to that?

Makes me laugh !! That is shuttering ply ! You cannot tile over it !! It is meant for shuttering !! Unscrew it and use marine ply alot more screws !seal it with sbr and use a flexible adhesive and grout
