I've recently put a spreadsheet together for all material costings so that I can gauge jobs a bit better. As a default, I marked up all materials by 30%. Do you think this is a fair mark up or otherwise?

Minimum of 30% on materials, sometimes more, depends on the product. I buy my adhesives by the pallet so I can make a few more quid on each bag. We have to earn a living and make profit, the way I see it is, so long as I'm not charging more than retail, the client is getting a fair deal.

It all depends on the discount from the retail price. On addy, grout etc, I add on 20%. For tiles I normally get between 30/40% so I will pass on half of that to the customer, and arrange delivery, taking it out of their hands.

Usually ten or twenty percent but on stuff like tanking and grout there's about 200% due to buying once and using on several jobs.
