I have about a 40mm gap between the bath edge and the wall, I plan to tile the wall, do you recommend boxing this in or using some kind of sealant? Really struggling to find a large enough ceramic or plastic lip edge to fit.

Is the tap end tight against the opposite wall?

When I encounter this and boarding a wall isn’t an option then I fit tub with equal gaps at both ends. This should halve your gap to 20mm which is workable with 10mm thick tiles, adhesive and a thicker silicone bead.
