direct payment

i normally get paid cheque or cash, however got a customer wants to pay direct into my account, wants me to email my bank details to him, so what details do i need to email to him , and is this a safe method payment (like can he pilfer my account of what little money i have).

I've done it before andy but only with a customer I'd done quite a bit of work for. I wouldn't be happy doing it for someone I'd only met a couple of times. I think it's quite safe but I'm not a big fan of the whole internet banking thing.

Your account number and sort code.

I get most of my payments this way. You just need to give your sort code and account number and is my preferred method of payment.

I have most of my commissions paid this way, as above they just need sort code and account number and you're fine. Beats waiting for a cheque to clear (or bounce!). It may take 3 working days but it's simple for the customer to do. If you're in any doubt just ask at your bank and they'll set you straight.

Nothing to worry about IMO and I've been using it for years. The account I use is just a clearing account for payments and as soon as I receive it I transfere it into my main account, which is instant.

jeremy clarkson proved on tv that nobody can get money from your account by putting his account number and sort code on. but some wise crack signed him up to a few charities and they debited his account :lol::lol:

I love this type of payment. Often it shows instantly in your account, sometimes takes a few days.

You need
Acc Number
Sort Code
Bank Name (lloyds etc)
Your reference (customers name or whatever)

These details are only on invoices though, I don't stick them elsewhere.

I've allways gave my details to the customer directly.

I send them on the final invoice which I email. The account I use to receive payments can't be used to withdraw money or accept direct debits. So it doesn't matter how

My bank charges are so high for cash and cheque transactions that I always try to pay all invoices, and get my customers to pay me via electronic transfers.

I would never send details via email but do include on invoices.

Your client will require the sort code and account number and it will assist if they know the Bank name and account name.

Sure, I email all my invoices. Providing it's a customer you have just as many details of theirs for the police should you think they've stolen your ID. Which is what people worry about I guess. But it's unlikely an ID thief would be conning tilers. They'd assume most would be cash I guess anyway as they have crooked minds themselves?

If you've done work for somebody, trust them with your bank details. They can only pay you money with 'em.

If someone pays you by cheque they are trusting you with their details (it's all on the cheque) including their signature so giving someone an account number relatively safe IMO.
