Was called out to this, tiles had enveloped by a doorway ,it’s a bellway home that had been tiled 7 yrs ago with no problems. It’s on a slab a black colour and very smooth which I’ve not seen before no cracks,I presume it’s concrete.
Tiles are sounding hollow all throughout this area but are ok in others, grouts not cracked and looks ok but the floor has definitely failed underneath in the majority of areas. You’ll see by the photos I’d lifted a section up,came up easy and on all the tiles the adhesive has stuck to the edges but not the middle of the tile. Any ideas would be appreciated

Apart from not having amazing coverage I think a standard adhesive may of been used rather than a flexible adhesive which would of stuck to the slab and the tile better

Bellway 7 years ago were using self compacting concretes. These have a curing agent sprayed on during installation. These are usually wax based so must be removed prior to tiling otherwise you will be priming something which is not stuck properly.

Alan and the tiler would of been given this info at the time by the builder. 😉

Thanks all for the replies I’ll be taking the floor up and either re tiling or putting LVT down. I think the adhesive has failed and the compacted screed is something I’ve never heard of but would make sense but as far as we’re aware all other floors are ok in other properties in the estate so who knows, guess we’ll never really after 7 yrs
