Apologies if this has been covered but I could not find much info on aquapanel searching, plentiful on haribacker...

I am after some advice on fixing aquapanel to a chipboard substrate, what adhesive people recommend and what thickness of adhesive to use. The substrate is in good condition and is very sturdy, plan is to use Mapei Keraquick tile adhesive mixed with latex plus to give it a good bond to the chipboard then screw in place, tape and fill the joins with the same adhesive.

What thickness of adhesive is recommended? is it really necessary to use a trowel 2/3 the size of the board like you would for a floor tile? Trying to avoid having to large of a step between carpet and tile.

Are there any other adhesives that would work as well (c2/s1)?

Do you need to prime the chipboard prior to using the adhesive?

Any advice for fitting?

Appreciate any help first time using cement boards.

Thanks,

Kyle

Hi and welcome to the forum Kyle!

Aquapanel wall and floor boards are different, just checking, but u do have the 6mm floor boards, yes?

3_fall it is indeed the 6mm board I am using. Thanks for the link to the PDF, I thought I had read all of knauf floor board fitting instructions... The two others I have read don't mention the need to prime the boards, anyone have any experience of priming them vs not priming?

Any recommendations on the thickness of adhesive to use joining the cement board to chipboard?

an 8mm trowel should be fine if your sub floor is flat.
You should prime the Aquapanel boards mixed 2:1 12 hrs before u start tiling
With their primer.
U don't need to use Keraquick with latex Plus, it's an S2 and unecessary.
The screws hold the board down.
Any SPF will suffice.

Thanks for the advice. I will get some primer, although I was under the impression priming wasn't needed for aquapanel, just a clean surface.

Any recommendations for other adhesives that cement based and s1?

All the information you need Kyle is in that PDF.
What primer, what to prime and so on.
Any single part flexible adhesive will be ok. Depends what's available in your area.

Why do say that? Never used either so intereasted on your views on both, although already picked up the aquapanel.

3_fall - Thanks, I will have another look over it.

and get a tiler to fix it for you

I would but it would appear even the guys that use it all the time are not clear on how to use it correctly hence why I asked... Some say prime others don't just had confirmation from Knauf that you do not prime unless it's a wet room...

Im used to using wbp ply hence all the questions...
