i noticed when removing some subfloor that the builders placed a 4 1/4"
hole for a toilet waste pipe in 2 floor joists on the second floor.
the joists are 2x10 and the span is 27'.
the bottom of the hole is 1" from the bottom of the joist.
i have been asked to tile the floor of this room with 24"x 8" plank tiles.
i am aware that this hole is not to code so i need to know how to proceed.
Is there any way to re engineer these 2 studs to avoid the risk of cracking the tile?
if not, would any experts here tell the homeowner NOT to tile the floor, or to use a much smaller tile to minimize risk of cracking?.
the house was built in 1990 and the subfloor is 3/4" ply
