Hi

Wickes and B & Q do large 2L tins of all kinds of sealers in the general building section (not the tiling section)
Some of them are wax and acrylic types however I want to know if anyone knows which are the "impregnating" types. They are like 30£ each and I cant tell unless I open them and they dont say on the back.

Cheers

Don't buy from diy outlets. The products ( even branded) are inferior.
Go to a specialist tile shop, where you will get good advise and a product to suit your needs.
Lithofin and HG are good products.

You'll always pay more from the sheds for the extras required over their budget tiles.
Best get the impregnating sealers from a tile distributor like CTD.
Lithofin is good.

With respect I only believe something when I know for a fact its true. I am not trying to go against people with far greater exp than me I just really want to know about this stuff to save money.

I used to spend 20£ for 750ml of tile stripper from lots of different tile shops and different brands. Then I used a bit of Nitromors mixed with some Methalayted spirits and it was much more effective but at about £5 per lire instead.

What if the sealers are the same and we are missing out? What if something labelled brick or cement sealer (that comes at 1 third the price) is as good as tile shop sealer but we never try it.

Timeless / Chalker do you know for a fact that certain silicone/solvent combinations or types being used by Lithofin or other for their sealers are better than DIY types or where you told this by the manufacturers/tile shops? Or have the DIY ones failed you when you used them?

Thanks

I use Lithofin for impregnating - do your own tests and make up your own mind, not worth listening to others if you only believe something when you know for a fact it's true!
Suppose it's like cornflakes , Kellogs don't make them for anyone else .

Yes you are right I should try them myself. Now does anyone have any idea which are the impregnating ones at B & Q trade point and Wickes. I already wasted £30 on a wax based sealer and there are about another 10 there?

Cheers

There should be contact details on the tins. Take a photo and then ask the manufacturer.

Lithofin and LTP are a couple of good brands. You'll need to test anything from DIY sheds. You won't find professionals using them.

No point spending a fortune on tiles and installation then scrimping on sealers.

Permission to speak freely, and I am fairly side tracked from my original post now.

I am pretty sure LTP and Lithofin got a £20 bottle of white spirit/stone stripper as well. Sorry if i am dissing tiling brands on here but I come on here for proper discussion on materials to further my knowledge. Not to find what brand to be used next and to get the same info time and again I can find on the back of a tin.
If the chemicals are the same then the quality is the same. Ok there are some undeniable products like Grimex. but I can tell you that it is like 99% amonia. A commonly found chemical and I bet allot cheaper. These manufacturers must be laughing at us!!

It seems like the guys who pipe up dont really know and its always the same (back of the tin rubbish with some form of quality shinanigans included) written by the manufacturers/british standards etc, and you said it yourself Dan, professionals wont ever use anything other than from a tiling manufacturer. So how can they know!

Then the other guys who may be able to shed some light and further our knowledge on here and make things interesting are to scared to say anything because they dont want to oppose all the guys with pretty badges and thousands of posts and look like a cowboy for trying new things. Its a disappointing shallow perspective on things.

Ok commence deletion of account LOL :)
