DIY Hardiebacker suction control? - Tile Advice

Hi

I'm a DIYer, done a few tiling jobs and don't think I'm all that bad at it. Just started refurbing my bathroom and have used Hardiebacker.

Generally no issues but being a DIYer I'm a bit slow. I've bought a slow curing cement based adhesive for this reason, to ensure that I don't waste much because of a short pot life and also to ensure that I have plenty of time to adjust the tiles if they need to be moved around a bit.

I have bonded a Classi-seal upstand to the boards and have found that the Hardieboard sucks the moisture out of the adhesive at a rate of knots. How best to get around this problem? Is it ok to spray water onto the cement board before tiling? Or I have some SBR here, weak mixture of that as a primer to help slow the suction down?

Use the sbr and prime the hardiebacker,that should help slow the suction

They say you don’t need to prime, but really your best off priming to make life easier and get a better bond
