Good evening,

i have a project coming up to tile a fireplace interior with real brick slip tile.
The interior has been sand/ cement rendered around 3 weeks ago. The fireplace is decorative only so heat won’t be a factor.
After priming with BAL APD i was thinking of back buttering the brick slips as the grout widths will waste a ton of adhesive, would there be any issues with this?
Thanks in advance for any advice

Just spread the wall with adhesive will take a long time spreading the backs of each brick slip and some brick slips can be a bit dusty/sandy quick wipe with a damp sponge Happy days get them on the wall

Cheers Josh, much appreciated. Also as I would normally silicone into the corners for expansion, would it be ok to grout into the corners or just leave a narrow gap between the side wall and back wall? I hope that makes sense

I’ve never siliconed brick slips before I don’t grout them either I get a bricklayer to point them instead I think it looks better than grout personally

Sorry mate when I said grout I meant pointing. Also I meant what would I do instead of silicone in the corners, do they need an expansion joint as its 3 walls each around .75 m2. Cheers for your reply mate

As it’s only a feature and not being used as a fireplace I wouldn’t see a need for expansion joints
