Hi rossy..The Amtico I know is just vinyl tiles glued to the floor with heat welded 'grout' lines. It's unlikely the ply underneath the floor will be a min of 12mm if there is any at all and you have no way of telling how good the substrate is under the Amtico, plywood, etc.. As you have to be confident your work is not going to fail, you would be wise to rip it up, check/fix the flooring/substrate as necesary, then tile away...

I wouldn't think tile addy would stick well enough to Amtico anyway. And there is the differential expansion/contraction characteristics which could split the addy away from the Amtico as well. It's got to come up IMO I'm afraid

Lift it up mate....the use of a heat gun will speed things up and help remove any glue left behind ..

Not absolutely sure but think so. I saw it when I was up at their training centre in Solihull a couple of months ago. It looked really impressive. I guess it might have been a special sort of grout but as I say I not certain. I will find out if you interested though.
