Hi rossy..The Amtico I know is just vinyl tiles glued to the floor with heat welded 'grout' lines. It's unlikely the ply underneath the floor will be a min of 12mm if there is any at all and you have no way of telling how good the substrate is under the Amtico, plywood, etc.. As you have to be confident your work is not going to fail, you would be wise to rip it up, check/fix the flooring/substrate as necesary, then tile away...

Vinyl grout joints..not actual grout..

Not absolutely sure but think so. I saw it when I was up at their training centre in Solihull a couple of months ago. It looked really impressive. I guess it might have been a special sort of grout but as I say I not certain. I will find out if you interested though.

I would deffo have lifted the floor or sheated over if this was to much hassle.

Just a few points for anyone reading this.

1. plywood under amtico etc would very rarely be as thick as 12mm, more likely to be a max of 6mm as fitters normaly cut the ply with there stantley knife for speed. (I would either lift and sheet with a thick ply or ply over the floor at least.

2. As Dave mentioned it is vinyl strips that are used with this type of vinyl. Heat welding is used for sheet vinyl and lino for joins.
