levelling
Levelling or leveling (American English; see spelling differences) is a branch of surveying, the object of which is to establish or verify or measure the height of specified points relative to a datum. It is widely used in geodesy and cartography to measure geodetic height, and in construction to measure height differences of construction artifacts.
It is also known as spirit levelling and differential levelling.
I have removed the finish on two full walls leaving a sand / cement render. I now plan to fix the tiles with a cement-based adhesive on these two walls. On a third wall I will only be tiling two rows up from the bath.
Do I level the SC render with the adhesive, let it set and then tile on top...
So I may have done an oopsie.
We are putting self-levelling compound down over floor where I removed the vinyl tiles. Some of the tiles had a white powder which had pushed them up. This is a concrete ground floor with no basement. So my plan was to seal over the bitumen and then put self...
Just wondering everyone's thoughts on leveling schluter curbs. I'm installing a shower kit on top of 3/4 plywood floor. The one curb in question is approximately 40in long.
In that 40in stretch if I lay my 4ft level down the floor is PERFECTLY level. Almost disturbingly level to be honest (ha)...
Hello
l’m doing up a cottage in Dorset. I’m moving the kitchen into a ‘60’s built extension. It’s got a concrete slab and tho it doesn’t seem damp I can’t see any dpm. After talking to Everbuild/Sika’s technical department I’ve used their 908 Blackjack as a dpm with Sika latex levelling compound...
Looking for advice on how much adhesive to use.
I’ve taken on my first tiling project and found that the chipboard subfloor was affected by water under the washing machine so have cut it out and replaced it with osb and ply (the only way to match the 20mm thickness). However it doesn’t match up...
Will this work?
(top to bottom)
tiling (one room), 12mm laminate (other room)
19mm T&G chipboard
self levelling compound
100mm Kingspan insulation (joints and edges sealed so self levelling does not run below insulation.
concrete slab (not level)...
Looking for some advice. I want to tile a floor but it runs out by 20mm on one side. The levels are all over and wanted to know the best way of levelling it before tiling. The floor has already been concrete boarded as the floor was a mess
Hi all,
I have a small WC about 2m2.
I realise now, that I should have taken up the Chipboard floor, levelled the joist and replaced with Ply. However, I went ahead and fitted and levelled the concealed toilet and have burned too much time to rip it all out.
I realised, that the floor was not...
Hello, I’m about to porcelain tile a long established concrete floor with electrical underfloor heating and decoupling mat in about 1/3 of the area, then I’d like to tile the rest using adhesive underneath only. As there’ll be a 5mm+ height difference between these heated and non hested areas...
How many leveling clips and wedges would you recommend per tile and what sort of gap would you leave between clips if you have 1200x600 12mm think porcelain tiles?
I plan to lay a circa 8m x 4m patio using a concrete slab and fixing with tile adhesive. The porcelain tiles will be 1200 x 600 or 900 x 450, I want to use a half bond with the longest edge parallel to the 8m length of the slab.
I'm looking for recomendations on adhesive and a levelling system...
Hi Does any one know of a self levelling compound, for external use that can be applied on 7 day old concrete? I know for adhesive BAL do the green screed and am looking for something to work with this.
Thanks
Hi All,
Doing an install at the moment which requires me to self level in two stages. I have put leveller over leveller in the past (priming between coats) and not thought much of it. However today I had a query and decided to call the manufacturers technical team and to my surprise they told...
Hi guys ,
I'm new to this forum and I haven't done a lot of tiling so would like to get some advice on choosing the correct size levelling clips ( clip and wedge system ) . I'm doing an external patio on a concrete slab and want to end up with a 3mm grout line for 45cm...
Good morning tilers,
A neighbour has recently asked me to look at tiling the floor in his garden room. The screed is incredibly rough and will need levelling first - the problem is he has already gone over it with a DPM (liquid I think). This is a new problem for me and I'm not sure how/if...
Hi all,
Anyone able to offer a newbie some advice please?
I plan on fixing 600 x 300 porcelain tiles to a wall, 3m wide.
The wall is cement render (quite smooth), but is concave with a gap of around 10mm mid wall.
What would be the best way to level / flatten this wall before tiling...
Hi everyone,
Hope to get some help and advice please.
I have laid down 8mm of self levelling compound on a concrete floor after priming it so it was a good level to work off (I also included an 8mm expansion joint around the perimeter) (Conservatory is 15 years old and area of 14 m2).
I then...

Does anybody else have the issue of joints being opened up when using a tile levelling system (wedge & clip). I’m laying floors with 600x600 tiles and thought I would try a Levelling system just to see how good they were and if it could speed things up (I don’t normally use them).
As I tighten...
Hello, I need to level the joists.
The joists are about 2-3 mm out in places. I would like to level the joists using flexible tile adhesive to the highest point by ruling off using a long feather edge to reference points set in place.
The tops of the joists having been pre-cleaned and...
