.........When it’s a shower!!!

One of the smallest ex-large format projects I’ve undertaken, in more ways than one.

I was asked what the feasibility was of installing a 4 tile string of 2.4 x 1.2 x 6mm thin tile to a rather compact shower room.
I went along to the property, and quickly understood everyone’s point of view, general consensus was it wasn’t possible because of access.
But the client wants what the client wants.

My proposed solution was to dismantle a shower wall that backed in to the bedroom.
Bring the largest two pieces thro the wall in the upright position, and then reinstate and waterproof the shower.

The rest were going to be reduced in size sufficiently to be passed through the door.

One other issue that was to become a real thorn in my side was that one of the four pieces delivered, was incorrect, and not part of the string ordered.
And after being promised it would only take a week to replace, I’m still waiting, 10 days later.

Anyway after getting assurances from all concerned that if I was to begin the install and the missing piece turned out to be incompatible, I was not to be held responsible for proceeding without it. (Even that took almost a week to get in place)

Very nice...so if the stud wall had been a solid wall, the job wouldn't have been possible?

Thanks Andy.
Not as it is Andy no, the full piece to the right wouldn’t have gone thro the door, there’s not enough width in the room to bring it in and lift and twist at the same time to stand it upright.
The reason the images are at a strange angle is because I’m pressed hard against back wall and I couldn’t get a photo top to bottom.
The only alternative was going to be to rip the last two pieces down to 600’s from 1200’s.
As the other pieces were all around 6-700mm wide having the whole room in pieces of similar size wouldn’t have looked out of place.

very nice marc
a question if I may, do you ever lower / put a fulse ceiling in at 2.4m ?

Cheers Julian,
If you may? Of course you can ask as many questions as you like mate.
Here they’re actually having a lighting raft which will fall just below the top of the tile and be set off the wall 50mm
It was actually fortunate that the actual ceiling height was at 2.55m
Without that extra height I wouldn’t have been able to get the last piece in, when it actually arrives.
And that will only work because it’ll be reduced in width to 1050mm and has a checkout in its top right corner.
Without all those 3 things, I wouldn’t have been able to even start.

Looks great and I like the tile too, matte finish ? What are you using on the floor ?
Thanks Andy,
Yes it’s a Matt finish, far nicer than the polished I think.
No, that’s me done mate, not doing the floor.
That’s down to the contractor.
I’ll quite often just go in and do the large formats and others will do the rest of the work if there’s any.
Up to now I haven’t really ever had time.
I won’t turn this type of work away just because I’ve got to do a regular bathroom.
It’s been thus far that I can turn the rest down and clients never turn around and say “all or nothing”
It makes a pleasant change to be able to tell them what I’m doing, and not the other way around, as it normally is.
I’m sure it won’t last tho. Haha

Met Sam at Pro Tiler on Saturday. (What a nice bloke!) He was saying he had been down for a day with you and was telling me about your set up and the work you do. Wow!!
Yeah he’s good guy, knowledgeable too, we had a good day.
I’m pretty lucky I must admit, I get to do some amazing projects.
I’ve had to work for it tho, and it’s been tough at times, getting there tho.

That’s lovely work at always Marc, but would you say the room is too small to appreciate the affect you get with tiles like this.
Thanks.
Not really to be honest, everyone strives to have as few joints as possible now, so that it gives the appearance of natural stone slabs.
The images don’t do it real justice because I don’t have a wide enough angle lens.
I’ve tried bolt lenses and it gets too distorted.
This particular client who works in advertising on the design side, had a very specific idea of what he wanted to achieve, and I’m pleased to say he was overjoyed that his vision had been realised.

Yeah you don’t develop those skills overnight or the jobs. Lot of time and effort to get where you are.
