Hi,
I'm disabled & moved into private rented accom in West Cornwall.
I've bought a new cooker & want to tile the wall around the cooker area.
a/ limited budget
b/ limited ability to fetch supplies
c/ about 4 sq metres.etc.
I'm looking for the most cost effective way to do this, ie: where can I get some decent 150 x 150 wall tiles (either locally or on-line) - prefer not white,,,, but at the end of the day, if all else is too dear, i'll have to settle for that.
I'd prefer a light, mottled, wet effect.
Local B&Q not much choice,,, local Tile 'specialist', too expensive.
Depending on price, I may do more afterwards.
Any ideas please folks ?
thanks for reading,,,,,

150 x 150mm whites will be the cheapest you can get I think and most tile outlets do a version. I think if it's budget in mind first, then go for the whites, perhaps with a sheet of cheap 300 x 300mm mosaics and cut the sheet into the lengths a single strip wide and use that as a border to break it up a bit?

Checkout www.tilegiant.co.uk and if there isn't one local, see if there's anything on www.tilehq.co.uk and take it from there.

All the best,

Any decent fixer would be able to sort something other than white for about the same price althouogh choice would be limited.

Many thanks Dan,

Unfortunately, both stores mentioned are too far away - so delivery costs for 4 metres rules it out i'm afraid.
I managed to pop into a Homebase branch & they have a couple of things (8x12") - a nice very pale grey &/or beige - which may be worthwhile (& a great deal on some 'mandalay' Floor tiles - damn,,,, I might have to do the floor as well now,,,,

My carer has volunteered to take me to Wickes later today/tomorrow (never used 'em before). If they have nothing, i'll probably end up with the H.Base ones,,,, though the 6x6 would have fitted & looked better in the spaces that I have to do.

Thanks again for the advice Dan, i'll keep the links on file, in case I get around to doing more,,,,

cheers

Many thanks Sir:

I'm doing it myself,,,,, (never thought of myself as a 'fixer' ?!?!)

I actually thought that plain White was so out of date, that they would be classed as 'Classics' & cost more !

For this instance, it looks like Homebase is the answer at £6.99 sqm (see previous reply to Dan).

They also have some slate floor tiles at £7 sqm,,,, and some Mandalay at even less.

thanks for your help.

Hi,

Whereabouts are you exactly in Cornwall? I am just starting out in tiling and have undertaken a tiling course. I am currently employed and commute to Bude at weekends. If you are not too far away send me a message me and we'll see what we can sort out, (assuming you don't mind me possibly doing the job!!?)

Cheers

Paul
