We had our kitchen floor tiled in large plank-style porcelain tiles (90cm x 15cm) about 2 years ago. The tiler tiled them onto caberboard and there is also an underfloor heating mat under there too. Since then we’ve had grout popping and tiles cracking left, right and centre. In total about 5 tiles have had to be replaced and we’ve now got another 8 that need replacing and there’s clearly lots of movement and deflection. I count at least 30 tiles where there is movement. I’m aware that the ultimate solution is to rip it all up and start again but there‘s a kitchen sitting on the tiles and it would cost thousands potentially.

I’m just wondering about some alternative solutions, including the best flexible adhesives for this kind of thing. I’m wondering - what is the best possible flexible adhesive for this kind of situation? The tiler has promised to come back, get a load of the tiles up and see what’s what and mentioned using a more flexible adhesive. Just want to make sure I’m not missing a trick - any advice greatly appreciated!

Doesn’t matter how flexible the adhesive is.. the tiles are not and will still pop/tent and crack due to excessive movement

Your tiler should’ve known this so I would get back onto them as it’s a full rip out and make good the floor before any tiling is started
