Hey up again.

A friend is doing his own plasterboarding prior to the tiling,

I was wondering if he should get some moisture resistant boards for the shower and bath wall, - it will be receiving mapegum as aswell. Will this be a pointless overkill?

What are aquapanels? Are they a good alternative?

Moisture resistant would be an over kill if he's tanking anyway and they come in 8x4,s not 6x3,s like standard boards..

what do reckon to tile giants aqua panels instead of plasterboard and mapeigum water proofer?

450 by 330 10mm thick ceramics........

If your tanking I would just keep to the plasterboard, if it was, say Travortine, then I would go for the aqua board because of weight issues..

i would go for the aqua panel because its mould resistant and you can get a lot of condenstation behind the boards where the hot and cold water pipes are situated whether thats a shower enclosure or bath/shower.. its not just the front of the boards you need to consider when dealing with shower/humid areas...aqua panels are stronger, hold more weight, mould and water resistant so if its a straight choice between the 2, then its the aqua panel for me..

I think I would prob go for aquapanel as well if given the choice but as whitbeam says it is not the end of the world if he goes for the plaster board seeing as he is tanking. I would get him to have a look at the price difference between the 2.

Aquapanel and Hardie 500 are sooooo heavy! What about Wedi/Marmox/Schluter construction boards as an alternative?

ive checked out the marmox and the costs are so expensive for all the parts and washers plus there slightly smaller than aqua.

Can aqua panels be used on top of plywood prior to tiling a floor? Or does it have to be hardie?
