Hello, we need to attach carpet tackless onto a marble staircase and the re-finisher recommended aluminum drives. He said not to use the hammer
setting on the drill. Does anyone have experience with this type of installation ? Aluminum drives are specialty fasteners, 1/8'' x 7/8'' long, drill through
the tackless, into the marble, then hammer the aluminum nail into the hole for a squeeze fit. What do you think ? will the marble crack or should this be safe. The tackless gets installed onto the treads and risers (appx. 3/4'' away from the crotch) However, we could probably push that measurement out to maybe 1.25'' away, making the drill hole about 2'' away from the crotch. What do you think ?

Thanks
Mski

I would go with the suggestion/experience of the re-finisher, I haven't had the pleasure of coming across this situation but it sounds like the finisher has, I would go with what he suggests..

Thanks Angrypirate, he also said not to drill on veins, due to possible cracking and there are veins everywhere. We did a test pc. today using a specialty glue gun with 180 second glue sticks, called ' The Pam Glue Gun ' and even though this system has mixed reviews, it's holding to the marble really well.
