wood
Wood is a porous and fibrous structural tissue found in the stems and roots of trees and other woody plants. It is an organic material – a natural composite of cellulose fibers that are strong in tension and embedded in a matrix of lignin that resists compression. Wood is sometimes defined as only the secondary xylem in the stems of trees, or it is defined more broadly to include the same type of tissue elsewhere such as in the roots of trees or shrubs. In a living tree it performs a support function, enabling woody plants to grow large or to stand up by themselves. It also conveys water and nutrients between the leaves, other growing tissues, and the roots. Wood may also refer to other plant materials with comparable properties, and to material engineered from wood, or woodchips or fiber.
Wood has been used for thousands of years for fuel, as a construction material, for making tools and weapons, furniture and paper. More recently it emerged as a feedstock for the production of purified cellulose and its derivatives, such as cellophane and cellulose acetate.
As of 2005, the growing stock of forests worldwide was about 434 billion cubic meters, 47% of which was commercial. As an abundant, carbon-neutral renewable resource, woody materials have been of intense interest as a source of renewable energy. In 1991 approximately 3.5 billion cubic meters of wood were harvested. Dominant uses were for furniture and building construction.
Has anybody installed the wood plank tiles from waxmans?
I’ve been setting them out but theres lippage on every tile at either end also!
(Floor is level btw)
So just wondering if there supposed to be like than to give it a ‘plank effect’ if that doesn’t sound daft.

Evening all, I’ve recently looked at a job where there are wooden floor boards in an entrance hall that lead into a kitchen that has a concrete floor. Customer wants both kitchen and entrance hall tiled.
I’m going to cement board the hall way to reinforce the floor before tiling. Would I need...
I’m putting in an open plan extension (kitchen, sitting, dining). The extension will be L shaped, but the floor area is about 60 metres square (ceilings are 2800 mm).
My question is whether it is sensible to have wet UFH in the kitchen and dining area (40 metres square) and no UFH in sitting...
Hi, I'm new to this forum and looking for advice.
Has anyone used porcelain, wood effect tiles and found them in lengths longer than 150cm and varying widths? I'd like ideas as to suppliers if possible, thanks in advance!
Hello. This is my first post in quite a while.
I'm about to build a dummy chimney breast for a wood burning stove. The lower portion will have sides of 7N blocks laid flat, against an existing brick wall. The recess will be quite large (approx. 1200 wide by 1500 high). The sides and the back...
What's the best option when Tiling the inside chamber for a wood burning stove , providing that the stove has the minimum gap between finished wall and stove , is it Best to overboard with hardie , multiboard or just direct to render ? Don't want any cracked porcelain tiles ? Thanks

I’ve been impressed by the professional attitude of posters here so wonder if I might take some advice on my refurb project.
It’s a 300m2 bungalow, mixed 60s/90s extension, solid floor.
I’m a power wheelchair user and destroyed our old house hardwood floors in short order so am going...
Hi there, I've been emailing tile companies and none seem to be able to offer me any advice on my query. So I thought I'd ask the experts in here!
I'd like to tile the lid/top (hinged to access record player) and base of a hi-fi cabinet that I've renovated. As far as I could see it's either...
Been a while since I've been on but looking at this job and I'm looking for others opinions on how they would manage the transition from wood to concrete. The new ply floor is sound.

How would you suggest "randomising" a 90 x 15 plank wood effect tile running through a kitchen / dinner into a entrance hallway?
Standard should dictate no more than 33% offset to adjacent tile, and I don't want to end up with the "perfect grout lines" of a tell-tale tile floor? Would you start...
Morning all, I have a large area approx 106sq meters in total of an extension I'm looking to have done in wood effect. Large open plan, hallway, utility, cloakroom. Some very useful info on this thread. Has anyone ever tried to do a border inlay of any kind or a single plank border similar to...
Hi all, just after some advice on a suitable adhesive (preferably standard set) and grout that can be used for tiling the walls of an open fireplace containing a wood burner?
Also, the customer is thinking of using ceramic metro tiles, are they suitable?
