trim
A trim command (known as TRIM in the ATA command set, and UNMAP in the SCSI command set) allows an operating system to inform a solid-state drive (SSD) which blocks of data are no longer considered to be 'in use' and therefore can be erased internally.Trim was introduced soon after SSDs were introduced. Because low-level operation of SSDs differs significantly from hard drives, the typical way in which operating systems handle operations like deletes and formats resulted in unanticipated progressive performance degradation of write operations on SSDs. Trimming enables the SSD to more efficiently handle garbage collection, which would otherwise slow future write operations to the involved blocks.Although tools to "reset" some drives to a fresh state were already available before the introduction of trimming, they also delete all data on the drive, which makes them impractical to use for ongoing optimization. By 2014, many SSDs had internal background garbage collection mechanisms that worked independently of trimming. Although this successfully maintained their performance even under operating systems that did not support trim, it had the associated drawbacks of increased write amplification and wear of the flash cells.TRIM is also widely used on shingled magnetic recording (SMR) hard drives.
Hi all,
DIY advice needed. Tiled the toilet and now for one reason or another need to remove the back wall tile skirt. What's the best way to do this without damaging the other tiles?
Other solution is to remove the trim and tile up the wall. Is there a way to remove just the trim?
Any help or...
Hello guys, I'm new to the forum :)
So you know my skill level.., I'm currently training at a Construction school in wall & floor tiling, due to qualify in June 2021.

Hello All
For good or bad (probably bad as its not a common choice) we're planning to tile around the top of the kitchen worktop. Worktop is dead level so plan to leave a 2 or 3 mm expansion gap and silicone that.
The issue is the top of the tiled upstand. The tiles are black ceramic with raw...
Hi- I have just had my kitchen tiled with Metro tiles. I bought the trim requested by the fitter- but it looks odd and I’m not sure how I can change it.
Hi All. How can I match my tile trim to my tiles? The tiles are rose quartz. Unusual shades of purple & mauve. I have a RAL shade chart as I am getting some green trim coloured to the RAL code for my en-suite bathroom tiles. But there is not even a close match for the rose quartz. Does anyone...
Looking to use Genesis TDP trim on a bathroom project, and just wanted to ask a daft question....
The website TDP - Aluminium Square - Genesis - https://www.genesis-gs.com/tdp-aluminium-square-01?search=tdp says "Select TDP according to tile thickness"
Do they mean, select the 8mm version if...
Hi all, tiling my kitchen and I am upto the window. what the best way to finish where the tiles turn in toward the window. These are metro /subway tiles and have beveled edges, so will vary in thickness where they are cut at the window recess - what is the best trim to use or is it possible to...
Hi, my tiler has recently suggested that beveled metro tile, herringbone, half wall will not look good as extra grout will be exposed on the trim. I'm intending to use white tiles, dark grey grout and black trim. Would a box trim work to the highest part of the tile with the lower part just...
Hi All
I'm looking for some nuggets of wisdom please.
I've used the plastic rounded edge trim before and got great results without much thought.
I've gone for metal square edged stuff this time and I can't figure out what to do here.
The left hand wall at the tap end of the bath is going...
Hey guys, I hope you're all well. Any advice on getting a neat trim on this one? The trim will want to run floor to ceiling along the blue dots. The wall with the purple dots will be tiled floor to ceiling. The wall with the red dot will be half wall. If I use trim sitting out over the half...
Hi
Please help. I’m in the middle of a huge bathroom refit. I’m a homeowner. My tiler has tiled the room today and applied the brushed chrome tile trim around the window.
I’ve had a look and think it looks incorrect.

I'm tiling an en-suite shower (it has one of those bog-standard heavy cast-concrete (?) and enamel bases if that makes a difference).
I am not an experienced tiler, so I'm doing my learning.
Looking on the YouTubes, nobody seems to be using that concave shower tray trim anymore, (that would go...
Hello all, I am currently renovating two bathrooms in my place and needing some advice on tile trim. I renovated a bathroom at my childhood house with my dad. We used aluminium trim up the edge of a wall and around the vanity. Had big problems with the black that comes off it and wasn't happy...
Hi All,
I’ve been asked to help a friend whose has a stab at tiling their bathroom; they’ve tiled around the window, sides, top and bottom but asked me to finish the window (window reveals and tile trim.
I’ve tiled the reveals and placed the trim in place but it’s left varying gaps between the...
Hey guys, new to the forum.. I'm currently tiling a bathroom and have the tiles cut around the window in the front wall.. I've tried my hardest to get the edge of the window tiles as straight as can be but when placing a tile edge trim up against the line there's a 1mm gap every now and then...
We had a new tile shower installed with an oil rubbed bronze liner/pencil as the trim tile around the wall tile. The problem is the installer applied a 1/4 inch of line of grout between the liner and the wall. Although the grout is a dark color, it is not as dark as the liner and looks bad. I...
