This seems like a good place to get a reliable answer.

I have a worktop which is 7 foot long and 2 feet in depth. Used to have shelving one end and a small compartment the other and which held my PC. I've taken the shelving out and attached one end to my plasterboard wall. When I say I, I actually mean somebody else because I'm disabled.

One with the spirit level on the end that is attached to the wall it slightly off. Rather than drilling more holes and completely redoing it, was wondering if a couple of washes would be okay just to level it. A couple of 5p pieces under the end of the spirit level showed us how much the worktop is off. So if I find a couple of washes the same thickness as a 5p it should be okay.
