Hi,would appreciate your opinions on what wall substrate would be the best to tile to in an upcoming new from scratch installation. Two sides are back to bare brick and the other two sides will be a stud construction, not sure what size tile but will most probably be 8mm ceramic,i'm quite tight for space side to side and need it as least obtrusive as possible, thanks.

Stud construction, your are best using hardiebacker board in place of plaster board to build the whole walls, however you could also use moisture resistant plasterboard. Make sure you prime with SBR or another primer beforehand (but not PVA!)
Back to brick....I would get a plasterer to put a scratch coat on, flat and level and a joy to tile off of.
You could mechanically and tile adhesive fix hardiebacker or moisture resistant plaster board over the brick walls too.

Whatever you do, don't use wood, normal plasterboard, PVA or dot n' dab tiles straight onto the wall (lol).

When you say new from scratch installation. Depends on the usage. Is it a kitchen. bathroom. A wc. A shower. Etc then you can make a choice from there on if was me.
