i have just been to look at a possible job and the tiles are 50cmx50cm porcelain. The walls are skimmed and have paint on. The tiles weigh around 5kg each.

Therefore this is overloading the wall when adhesive is applied, yes ?

The shower tray is fitted and the walls have been tanked for shower area.

What is the best option. Tell customer to change tiles?

Refit boards and prime allowing up to 32kg per m2 ?

Cheers

well i would start by stripping the paint off mate, weight wise,i think its 20kg per m2
which works out at over 20kg per m2 including addy and grout. ask customer to change tiles or board the walls with 12mm plasterboard

With skimmed walls and those tiles boosha, you will be 25% overweight. Who tanked the walls? If they are aware of tanking, I am surprised they were not aware of the weight requirements as well.

I only see 2 options - 1. change the porcelain for ceramic or 2. reboard the walls again. Sorry, 3. don't do it!
