I would like to improve the open porch area outside our front door. Directly outside the door are quarry (?) tiles. At some point they have been overpainted with red tile paint but it is now starting to flake. In front of the tiles is a concrete doorstep.

Is it possible to tile over both the existing tiles and door step and if so what preparation is needed?

Is this any good? Pillars each side are going to open up porch. The crack has been like that since I moved in 30 years ago.

I'd probably scrape / blow torch / sand the paint off. Prime the lot (with a primer not a PVA), use a flexible cement based adhesive and tile it. Use a nice tile edge that won't corrode or rust.

Assuming it's all been down 30 years I'd guess it's not going anywhere. I don't think I'd bother to take the tiles up with that said.

Buuuuut I'm not a tiler so wait for somebody else to reply before doing that.

:D
