I am currently tiling my bathroom. I have chosen 4kg Porcelain tiles and was planning on putting them on a skimmed plasterboard. However the tiles are too heavy for the 20kg/m2 rule.

So, after some research the advice seems to be take off the plaster or replace the boards completely. Would it then be ok to tile onto the bare boards? Prime then first? Are they water proof?

I have also read about using Hardie-backer. However my plaster board was put onto breeze block by dob and dab method, making it so there is no stud in the wall to drill the hardie-backer into.

I really need advice, it’s so confusing!
