I wouldn't panic too much about your insurance. I don't think all insurers are signed up for the online thingy. My previous insurers were Admiral and I could never renew my tax disc online because they were'nt on the system either

ah yes, the good old Fiat Biscuit Tin. My grandmother had one and my Dad and his brother used to borrow to go trainspotting in. Two 6ft blokes crunched up in that on long journeys to Doncaster and York - that's classic

ignore the above post doug

when you said 500 i was thinking of the topolino , a triumph of italian engineeering .........not

i dont know anything about new cars as i have no interest in them

my missus runs a lovely limited edition peugeot 206 sport which is alovely car to drive

she wants a morris minor so im on the lookout for a decent one at the right money

i run old vans for my business and signwrite them myself

my latest isnt written yet as it takes a lot of work in setting out etc and i want to do the bodywork first

if you run an old van it has to look smart not something you bought off ebay for a few hundred quid

So long as they are pre 1974 then your tax free, anything after is normal tax rules. You could have a 1975 Daimler that does 600 miles a year and you pay full tax on it.

hi doug

i dont get free tax now as my vans too new

it was a conscious descision to run an older van

it suits my business to run a renovated van

i went looking a few years ago for a classic and fell of my chair at the prices

a roadworthy mk1 escort van was over £10.000 and then it needed work

after a bit of musing at some of the vans i used to run, a60 vans, minors etc that i couldnt afford to buy now it occured to me that i bought them as they were disapearing off the road and were at the bottom of their value

and then sold on at profit as the values were rising

so i decided to do the same again

over the last four years ive had a bedford midi and 2 early transits all bought cheap, restored and sold on at a substantial profit

my business is renovating older properties using traditional materials and methods so a renovated van is a good advert

signing myself shows off my brush skills

people judge you by your van

so for new work a new looking van with vinyl graphics works best

this covers the majority of tilers

the last thing you want is a tatty old builders van

my latest aqcuisition is an early renault trafic , once the bodywork is like new i will sign it myself

i will be driving something that gets noticed

i will post pics when its finished
