Discuss So when can I NOT use Ditra? in the Canada Tile Advice area at TilersForums.com.

I have been drooling over about 10 pages of the ''post your work'' thread and I am wondering when is it ok NOT to use Ditra when not laying UFH?

Emaple 1: Concrete floor, I put down SLC... Can I then tile straight over?

Eample 2: Floor boards (Stable), I then ply or thermo board... Can I then tile straight over?

I'm so confused...

Cheers, Scott.

A lot depends on tile material, substrate, sizes of tiled area and movement joints. It's not as simple as the two options you gave I'm afraid. There's very few occasions when it's NOT ok to ditra, but rather may not be necessary.
