Not really dave, if he takes bricks out and just sticks a 1x1 frame at the back of the brick not into the cavity ,he would get a 4" or more niche.only small but enough for some soap :)

Is the long wall of the bath internal ? If it was and there was a cupbaord on the other side you cut into that one maybe? Lot of work though for somewhere to put ones Loofer or shower gel :)

Building regs does not allow you breaching the cavity , this can cause cold/thermal issues along with damp... you can chase out 2/3rds of the way into brick or block on external walls but not breach / open up the cavity ..

But if you are ok at doing it then hey ho ..

I could be wrong dave, i don't want to argue, but do electri/gas boxes do exactly what you have said above ?
Bridge and block and cause these thermal issues, or am i seeing things when they leave a big hole in rhe side of houses and put a plastic box in it?
