Hi Everyone,

I had a contractor in to do some renovations and although he told me he was good at tile, I unfortunately have been left with some issues after the fact.

See attached pictures, the metal edging he used is not level with the top edge of the tile. Also, some of the tiles on the face of the stair protrude out past the edge. The tiles have not been grouted yet, but they have been laid down for a few days.

Any tips on how to adjust the edging or am I stuck with removing tiles along the edge and replacing the edging and the tiles?

Thanks,

Andy

That looks terrible.

The edging doesn't look like it was made for the job there. You needed something much bigger. Those tiles look too thick for it.

But what's going on with the cuts too?

You should have really got an actual wall and floor tiler in to do it. The 'contractor' you've got doesn't know what he's doing by the looks of it.

Tiling staircases is pretty specialist work. Out of interest, what has he tiled onto? Please don't say just the bare treads and risers!

Bahaha, Yeah its pretty ugly. I was alarmed. I'm pretty sure he had never done stairs before. Yes, its tiled onto bare treads and risers

The issue is that the treads are too wide for one piece of trim, they are something like 10'6" long.

I'm thinking I'll be calling a new tile guy and getting out my sledge hammer.
