I get fed up with builders...your always up against things...Plumber needs to get back in the bathroom, Kitchen fitter needs to start :mad2: Then when customer see's the finished job they strut around taking all the praise. How many of you guys get your own work and do not work for builders?

About half and half. The builders I work with now are all brilliant. This has taken about 2 years of "training" them tho. I have turned builder down, walked off of sites for all the reasons that you have just listed and worst of all they dont want you to do the job properly. they want you to do it quickly :mad2:

Most of the builders I use now have got sick of me insisting that the prep is done right and got another tiler in to do the work, only to be let down or left with an awful mess of a job. As a result they seem to do as I say and when i say it. Like I said tho, it has not been easy to get to that stage.

My only builder is quiet lately so I'm on my own work plus a local tile shop throwing me top spec work so busy times.
I don't have bother with my builder though just nit good rates, lol.

I've only got one guy who I work for now, I class him as a good friend as well as a work colleague so we get on just fine. I've not done work for any other builders for a couple of years now as I find that they won't pay the going rate, often pay late and don't compensate for any delays. Also in the 4 and a bit years I've been self employed I've only had 2 occasions where I've not been paid, no prizes for guessing what they both did for a living! Wait til Rich sees this thread, he loves builders

I only work with one builder, I get free reign on his jobs and I never have to quote for the work. He never questions my bill at the end and will do anything prep wise that I want.

If any other builders contact me, I tell them that I will only work for their client direct and insist on doing all my own prep work. All my other jobs are my own and have a deep seeded hatred for builders in general.....

i hate working for builders, they want everything done cheap, because they have already priced for the tiling, and they didn't think it would cost that much, because its only tiling, and anyone can tile ...blah blah blah :mad2: get fed up of hearing this, and they take ages to pay.

i prefer the builder to refer me direct to the client..
