Okay so I've been doing a family tree. Managed to trace one line of family back to 1535. Mostly always been in England or Wales by the looks of it. So I was getting a bit sentimentally patriotic about being British born and bred.

Thought I'd do a DNA test thing to see what my geographical makeup is.

And I'm only freaking 7% British!!! - Literally the little bit that makes me like tea and drinking from china cups.

I'm 39% Scandinavian, 30% Irish, 12% West European (so French or German), and 1% Iranian or Iraqi (maybe Turkish).

Holy mother of god. Top o tha mornin' to ya.

Explains the guinness. :)

Haha so one of your distant relatives is responsible for invading this country then!
So you're a Viking!
Dan's a pretty good Viking name isn't it? :D

Daan is a viking name, that means The Lord Is My Judge.
What's that monologue from Pulp Fiction where Samuel L Jackson recites that prayer before shooting those guys?
Something about the Lord being his judge/keeper?
Isn't it a passage by Ezekiel 25:17.
"The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of the darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy My brothers. And you will know I am the Lord when I lay My vengeance upon you."
U better be careful then :)

What site did you use for your tree, was in labour intensive, just asking because my Dad wants his doing, for whatever reason, but it would be nice to do :)

Was quite easy once you get back a few generations. It then starts to suggest electoral roll entries and whatnot with matching family names on so you can find other siblings and things to add to your tree, which then gives more suggestions.

Something which may seem really obvious to most people didn't click with me.

I got back to my 14th great grandfather and great grandmother (so far) and that doesn't mean I have just those two. I have 14 pairs of them when you get that far back So your tree literally expands massively once you get a few generations back. So if you get stuck on one of those 14 lines, there's 13 others to tackle. I could see why some people work on them their whole lives. It can never end.

Off the back of that. I found out some were in wars (obviously) and what they did. What their trades were back in the day. All sorts of stuff. Very interesting.

Shame that is. Might spark some memories though if you can mention some names he's forgetting perhaps if it's not too set in yet. Maybe.

Bloke next door to me at my last house had dementia and still lived there as his family lived down the road. Used to think I was family sometimes and come out and sing when we were gardening. Sometimes brings out some cool sides to people that crazy thing does. He would never sing usually his family said. His got quite serious quite quickly though and after I'd moved I saw his son and he did say he had to go into a care home bless him. Hope he has a garden there he loved it. Proper green fingers. Shyte voice. But good tomatoes.

Yeah, his long term memory is ok, I think, I'll give it a go anyway, yeah the dementia can have some amusing moments, albeit for the wrong reasons :)
