I am looking at fitting a tavertine 610x610x15 floor tile and have been advised that this tile is not suitable for floors and that i should be looking at tiles a min of 18mm thick? Anyone what to comment if this is correct or recommend a suitable depth of tile.

That thickness is fine for floors.....make sure you have a 100% adhesive bed...

What substrate are you tiling to..?

Recently did a floor travertine was 12mm thick and it was strong enough you just have to be careful when handling them not to break them but once they are down they are fine

Hi,
as already mentioned, make sure you have a 100% covering. You can also make your grout a runny mix and flood the joints just in case there are any hollows underneath. The runny grout should fill any cavities under the stone, harden and help prevent braking

or you could go for 100% contact, mix your grout at required consistency (so as not to compromise the integrity of the grout), My experience with "flooding the joints" is that you tend to get a lot of air pockets and voids in it:thumbsup:

Hi

To add to what Dave said about 100% coverage...it's a good idea to flat trowel the backside of each piece of stone to avoid the chance of "ghosting" through the stone from the ridges of setting material.
