I've seen a lot of builders weird ideas before, this morning was a new one.
Went to tile a floor I had previously seen, I was due to level it in places as it was a bit up and down, got there this morning and it's had a load of leveling mixed 50 50 with grit sand put down, it's as wavey as the sea and and you can imagine how soft it it, what goes on inside there head ??

It's stupid, it's never gonna set right, that sand is just holding water. I shoved the end of the spirit level right in it, it was done on Friday with a 2 hour set leveller

There is no need to mix sand in to slc imo, just weakens the mix and holds moisture. I've told the bloke to scrape it all out. I can understand putting some chippings in or some hardcore to bulk out if your filling a hole, not when levelling !
