Hi,

Recently Won a job for a Car Showroom and trying to source materials as cheep as chips.

appreciate any help or advise on the best place to get expansion trims from. Been quoted £17 per length off Specialist Tiling Supplies but this seems kinda expensive?

Also Mapei Flexi rapid set adhesive or similar standard with grey 113 cement grey grout to cover 400m.

A penny saved is a penny earned :)

Thanks

Paul

Guess ill just have to buy them at £17 then. Thats shocking for what they are! Ill make sure i loosen my belt at the checkout so my pant can be firmly pulled down as i pass over £400 :)

Ring around a lot. You're buying a lot of trim there. @Pebbs will tell you that charging a good amount for a job helps get the job done right and you can earn good money. But half the profit can come from making sure you're haggling when buying an unusual amount of one thing.

Call some distributors. You might be buying more than any of their tile shops have bought individually and they sure get better prices than you to be able to sell to you at a profit.

I wouldn't buy that qty at rates that are the same as one length.

I'd even consider doing it with adhesive and tiles too. Call some distributors and get them on board with you. They'll want that sale.

Cheers for advise Dan, rang around today, got the total costs down to £1735 an that's all for Mapei adhesives and grouts with expansion trims, so don't suppose I can grumble too much.

Ill still ring around again tomorrow though.... I love a bargain :)

What was the original total? How much have you saved?

That's brilliant.

And you weren't even going to ring around at all?

A tip, doesn't always work, but I always need to speak to a certain person in a company when making a deal. Whether for forum sponsorship or other things I do from time to time. I tend to try and find the name of the person I'm looking for and ask for them. Usually get their PA or second in command who's trained well to get rid of you unless it's actually something they need to pass on. You'll get passed back down the chain quite quickly.

So say you have an offer for them regarding a showroom job that's come up and it may lead onto other showrooms they have. And you'd like to get the advice from the person who can deal with the trade supplies.

Hopefully if you come up with something to get their attention and get them on the phone, they can understand where you're coming from and have the ability to reduce your prices for you.
