Hi guys.a friend of mine done some silicon around a bath and is still not set after 2 days.i told him it migbt be expired but sayd its still in date.
It was unibond brand, just been opened.i never hears of this before.does anyone else?
Thanks
No . But just remove it and get some proper silicone like dow corning 785 .
Could have been frozen, unibond is a crap brand IMHO, the no nonsense sanitary silicone from screwfix is as good as dow corning but less that half the price
That’s a big statement. No nonesense silicone is very very thin and difficult to use, I wouldn’t use it for anything
I use it all the time without any issues..
No nonsense caulk goes yellow fast. Their silicone range is ok for some jobs but final finish I use dow corning or Mapei.
Is it actually not set and still tacky or is it soft and they think it should going solid
Is it silicone sealant or just sealant cos sealant never sets on the inside just films over on the outside.
Best to scrape it off and use a decent brand silicone
I usually use Dow Corning, but did a job on a mates renter recently and used the no nonsense he'd bought and it went on fine. Longevity... Who knows?
For white or clear Dow Corning all the way.. for coloured Mapei or BAL... Unibond used to do a sealant once that was no more than a glorified acrylic caulk, could be something similar?

Glad I read this - I have 4 tubes of the stuff in my basket - not a tiling job, but to fill draft gaps between teak window frames and the walls for the whole house. I've double-checked the reviews and found it mentioned. Thanks.
