I have a large kitchen 65m2 laid by builders on a suspended floor.

builders used, 18mm Ply and ditra matting and the laid 600x600 tiles. Floor is 4 years old and I have lots of movement, 50+ cracked tiles and grout falling out daily.

I don’t know what to do anymore - builders are now uncontactable and I’m considering small claims court.

what did they get wrong and what should I replace with ? Floor cost £8k+

Builder actually subcontracted to tiller

yes 18mm direct onto joist and porcelain tiles used.

I have one 2nd opinion so far stating that backing board should have been used.

thanks in advance

18mm ply and ditra is perfectly acceptable, but there is a lot that can go wrong if not done properly.
Could be insufficient noggings , ply not primed , tiles not bedded properly and the list goes on...

Is there lots of bounce in the floor could be numerous reasons but might be a floating floor

Do you know what’s under the ply

Is there a scientific way of measuring bounce? Is it true that Ditra only helps with lateral movement?

Not really - the joists and underfloor heating

Get a glass full to the top with water, sit it on the floor and jump up and down. :)
