600x600 polished porcelain on heated screed. Should they be back buttered before placing on the floor or not.

Yes. Notch the adhesive on to the floor and skim the rear of the tile before fixing.

Every floor tile in every environment, wall tiles in wet areas for me. Flat edge of the trowel across the back of the tile is generally enough to ensure a near 100% coverage. Of course a flat substrate is the biggest help of all, get the prep right and its all good from there.

I started tiling a bathroom floor last week & stuck about 8 tiles down without buttering,
I ripped them back up & skimmed them as it felt un natural, I have buttered floor tiles for that long now that its just second nature.
