Just about to start tiling an older concrete floor (20 ish years old) that has previously had self levelling applied with carpet on top. Is in sound condition with a few minor hollows, - nothing major.

Going to lay 9mm porcelain tiles (600 x 600) and wondering if any form of primer required (e.g. PVA or SBR) or can I just go for it?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Stuartpaul,
Just ensure that the old carpet and flooring adhesive have been removed.
You say there are a few minor hollows, it's better to take these out before you start tiling with these larger format tiles.
Remember, the larger the tile format, the flatter the sub-floor needs to be.
With regard to priming, if the sub-floor is clean and it is a sand cement/concrete sub-floor, you can tile on it with a good cement based adhesive.
Hope this helps?

Personally I would prime with diluted SBR, or at least wash down with water. Won't take long, and definitely helps with the bonding process.
Aye, remove any loose material, again won't take that long, piece of mind and all that.
